CREATIVE ADVENTURE

Embark on a creative adventure of your local area by focusing on your senses and discover treasures that you may never have noticed before. All ages are welcome to participate and no previous mapping experience is needed. There is no right or wrong!

WHAT IS A SENSORY MAP?

A Sensory Map is an illustration or written description of your environment explored through one of your five senses. These maps can be made during a cycle or walk.  A Sensory map is completely individual. Each one will look unique based on each person’s own experience.

MAKE A MIND MAP

VISUALISE

Before you go outside to map, use your imagination to make a colourful mind map at home to get you in the mapping zone. Imagine yourself doing one of  your usual routes from home, retrace and visualise your favourite walk or cycle loop.

THINK ABOUT THE WEATHER

Imagine the wind in your hair and the weather on your face. Is it a sunny day or a cloudy day?

How do colours change in different light, think about dark shadows and bright colours.

THINK ABOUT COLOUR

What time of year is it? Think about colours you can only see at this time of year.

Do the colours mix together when you see them from your bicycle? How many different kinds of green can you see?

MAKE A MAP FROM MEMORY

In your memory, which colours stand out? A yellow house, a black dog, a particularly green field.

Use your crayons or markers to make a map and show all the colours you imagine seeing.
